Dear Readers,

Lovers of literature will be interested to know that the architect Dennis Sullivan and I have conceived of a Poets Plaza to be created on Vallejo Street in North Beach, San Francisco, between Grant and Columbus Avenues (between the Caffe Trieste and the Shrine of Saint Francis).

The Poets Plaza Piazza Saint Francis will have olive trees, a Poets Podium, chess tables and park benches, plus many, many quotes from great poems inscribed in the pavement of the Plaza. We have gained the enthusiastic support of the City Planning Department as well as the Mayor and all neighborhood groups.

This is our vision, but of course it will take at least a couple of million dollars to realize it! At present we owe approximately $25,000 for detailed engineering plans required by the City, and this must be paid off before we can proceed to other requirements.

If you are interested in having your name inscribed on the Poets Podium or on a park bench or chess table,
please write me for details:

C/o City Lights, 261 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco 94133, or email me c/o info@poetsplaza.org

We are looking for active participants to help us create the Plaza. Any and all expressions of interest would be welcomed. Looking forward to hearing from you, one way or another!
